Lane Lindstrom Passes

I was saddened to discover this morning that broadcast engineer Lane Lindstrom (Virtual Engineer forum member Radiolanes) passed away yesterday due to Sarcoma, which apparently he beat once but returned with a vengeance. Lane was a broadcast engineer in the central Illinois area. I was fortunate eno...

Re: 75 uSec Pre-Emphasis Graph

I remember seeing it in an old Gates manual for one of their exciters. If I happen across it I'll do a scan and post.

Re: Valley 401 schematic

Reminds me of the Aphex 320a Compellor manual which the first version had schematics and they pulled them with every revision afterwards.

Hopefully someone will happen across the schematic for the 401 for you, Chuck.

Re: Valley 401 schematic

I had a scan of the manual but can't find it at the moment. Perhaps the 400 schematic would be close enough to help in troubleshooting:

Re: AM station to shut down at end of May 2019

I believe Ryan was doing WQUN up until the end, as I know he and fellow broadcast colleague Bob Gilmore were also working together at ESPN in Bristol. Here's a link to my forum post when four years ago (and 50 pounds heavier) I toured the station's transmitter site:

Re: Changing Frequency Of Belar RFA-1 FM RF Amplifier

Depending on how far you're moving it you'll need a new front end coil set, too. Does the FM have that? I know the AM version does. Not sure. I just noticed the thread was about the FM band amp and I'm use to retuning the AM amps. I'd have to look for my crib notes as I've only dealt with one fixed...

Re: Changing Frequency Of Belar RFA-1 FM RF Amplifier

The question will be can you get the crystals now that ICM has gone belly-up. I have the formula on retuning inside one of the amps I retuned - I can see if the amp with the info is still in the office. Depending on how far you're moving it you'll need a new front end coil set, too. Gee, I would hav...

Re: AM station to shut down at end of May 2019

I find it sad when a station associated with an academic institution shuts down, especially for their claimed reason of fewer students are interested in broadcasting. When I did my closed campus AM and FM station I had students clamoring to be involved in spite of the fact we were unable to secure a...

Re: Cheap Chyron

I had heard rumors of a new version of the Video Toaster that had run on Amiga hardware. I assume if it's been resurrected that it would run on more modern, likely Intel, hardware. I had one of the originals in our district before I was able to score a Chyron VP-2, which we used until it got so tire...

Re: Very low power recommendation

There was a BW TX-5 V2 5 watt transmitter on ebay last week. I've used a BW TX-50 as a standby. It has a simple 4 band processor included, The only problem is the display seems to go bad with time. Has a good remote interface. I had a couple of TX-5 original versions and that was the problem. I sti...

Re: Very low power recommendation

I don't know if any of the lower power Broadcast Warehouse products are type accepted / certified for LPFM operation but I used one of their TX5 FM transmitters for a radiating coax in-building FM signal for a high school radio station project a number of years ago and it kept chugging happily witho...

Re: DBX286 with an 8Khz whine from the de-esser

I have the 286a versions. I can't find my copy of the schematics at the moment but it's possible the ones I previously linked to may be close enough for troubleshooting. I don't recall what I did to the one I repaired and it's no longer available to me to examine which components I replaced. Does th...

Re: DBX286 with an 8Khz whine from the de-esser

You don't mention which version of the 286 you have. I do recall something similar to what your speaking of with the original Project 1 version, which has the separate wall-wart power supply. I have a few of the updated 286a units and have never had that issue, although I found them a bit too transp...

Re: AM Radio Wall

That's hilarious! They lived with the problem for all the time they occupied the house and it could have been resolved simply if they had made a query to the station. I had a business on the opposite side of the transmitter site from a 1KW daytimer that would hear our station in their phone system. ...
