Re: RING MY BELL

All worked here on the East Coast. I was at my 9-to-5 job in a classroom where students weren't suppose to have their phones on them. I can tell how many paid attention as they got ratted out by the alert.

Re: Dead Relio Revived

@Bob: For removal the Chip Quik works fine with a decent soldering pencil as it keeps the solder molten for quite a while. Of course when you're out of it you need to find an alternative, considering I rarely do SMT board repairs. Without Chip Quik I use Kaowool insulation and cut a hold big enough ...

Re: Dead Relio Revived

I usually get it from Mouser when placing regular parts orders:

Re: Dead Relio Revived

I wonder if the de-soldering alloy I use for surface mounted chip removal would have made things easier to remove. I never think of using it for other han SMD repair.

TX + Bad Memory = Off Air

Anybody have an idea of the manufacturer of this transmitter? It appears it was a SanDisk Compact Flash memory card

Re: computer dropping off network

Sorry, but windows 10 is garbage. they keep taking out features from PRO, they reinstall "Apss" and change your settings with every update (that you have little control over when they are installed, you can defer them for up to 60 days max I believe). Don't have my notes handy, but changing the wir...

Re: computer dropping off network

The OP mentioned it was a USB device. Depending on driver and hardware I usually make sure that the power can't be inadvertantly powered down by the computer.

Re: WKRP

The beauty of it is that it is so typical of how radio was in the 70’s. Not real far from the truth. 70's? I worked at a station in the mid-late 1980's where they could have scripts for the next 10 seasons! I note that all the WKRPs in Dave’s database were named after the show first came on. Reckon...

Re: Anyone Home?

It's even more hilarious when I hear the local AM carry a Yankees game where there's dead carrier throughout the game except for the commercials, which fire off and play fine. Considering this particular station is owned by a major group who recently shed a billion off their debt you'd think they'd ...

Re: Ecreso vs. BW for Translator

I've used a couple of the BW transmitters and experienced two problems. I had the final output go soft, not making maximum power output after a year or two, and the backlight on the transmitter had gone dim. It's used as a backup for the backup so it's not a pressing matter, especially back before t...

Looks like an EV 666 to me (if that's a clip I see holding them). Had a few of them at the high school FM station I started out at back in the mid 1970's.

Re: AM Tuning Unit Design Software

I don't know why it took me this long to think about it, but how about loading Win7 or something older in a virtual machine using VirtualBox? I do that when I need software that doesn't run natively under Win10.

Re: Tomato Soup Incident

I was meaning to share this as it was told by a technical scientist I'm acquainted with: A user had apparent spilled some portion of a cup of coffee into a laptop they had been working on. The scientist picked it up and started walking to their lab hurriedly due to the spill. Unbeknownst to him one ...

Re: Tomato Soup Incident

I wonder if the soup is/was less toxic to the PC board than the incident I heard, which was when a jock dumped a large orange juice into a PR&E BMX console. Took out the entire backplane and then some. Luckily it wasn't at any of my stations.

Re: Monitoring, Day Sequerra Board Repair

Mind you, this comes from someone who's never really dealt with the HD side of things, but I'm curious just what is considered 100% modulation for the digital audio stream. I've been discussing with colleagues about the different references in luFS (loudness units full scale). Since I've never studi...
