Re: Taking my stream to mobile users... AAC+ 32 or 64 ?

And you're going to have it worse; 5mm drivers and funk aren't real compatible. :-) Ha, ha... yeah but only hi-fi nuts would even think twice about that. It's hilarious to me but it seems like 90% of the average public simply listen. They know when audio quality sounds very, very, very bad. But oth...

Re: Taking my stream to mobile users... AAC+ 32 or 64 ?

I listen to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me live from my local NPR affil, WUSF, via 128 and 64 MP3 streams on Shoutcast, and while I can hear the difference, given that I'm using the built in speaker, I don't really care. I think a lot of it depends on whether your listeners are using the built in speaker,...

Taking my stream to mobile users... AAC+ 32 or 64 ?

Funk Republic Radio plays, well you guessed it... funk and soul music with live DJ's. Since we launched 2 years ago, we've been streaming MP3 128k. We now have a mobile iphone app and are getting tons of listeners on their mobile devices. We just fired up a new streaming server to handle these mobil...

Re: USB on-air control surfaces?

Does anybody make a USB control surface that looks like an on-air mixer? Big mute and start buttons with lights, cueing, that sort of stuff? Doesn't have to be big, 4-8 faders is probably plenty... I'm looking for something that looks like an Air 1, but all it is is control surface. No audio. I've ...

BOSS Top 40 Style Jock Vocal Compression & EQ Settings

Forgive me if this subject has been beatin' like a dead horse. Using a DBX 266 with compression and gate on our jock's voice mic. Using an EV RE-320 in to a Presonus TubePre to add warmth, then in to an older Aphex Aural Exciter & Big Bottom... then finally in to the DBX 266 before it goes in to the...

How Do Our Statistics Look... In Your Opinion?

I have a station with a funk & soul format, replete with idents, loud jocks and even DJ drops from the likes of The Family Stone and Isley Brothers. I started my station from scratch, and is about 14 months old. We currently average 32,000 - 36,000 unique listeners on any rolling previous 30 days. O...

Re: Trying to get my brain wrapped around encoders

... is using a computer and software encoder pretty much the norm with the big boys? No. In my experience smaller commercial stations often use a tuner to feed the sound card. Larger stations often use either external processing, perhaps some of them taking the main processor output before the STL,...

Trying to get my brain wrapped around encoders

My station uses a Mac desktop workstation with NiceCast to encode my signal and send out to our Shoutcast Server. Whether you're using a Mac and NiceCast, or a PC and some other encoding software... is using a computer and software encoder pretty much the norm with the big boys? I recently found thi...

Re: Need some compression & limiting help

Many "high energy" stations process mics prior to the final mix for both practical and political reasons. Most air talent is so ego-driven and paranoid that they will blame everything--including the microphone and associated electronics--but themselves for any personal performance shortcomings, per...

Re: Need some compression & limiting help

Very nice boys. And it's my assumption that the Jock's mic is processed completely separately. In other words, having compression, aural exciter and big bottom between the jock's mic and the board is acceptable standard?

Re: Need some compression & limiting help

Here is the problem: "The main outs on the board dump in to our macintosh computer using NiceCast that has an exquisite effects panel using a host of Waves plugins." You'll never get the sound you are looking for here. You need to stick with the broadcast or at least pro audio stand-alone processor...

Re: Audio Processing?

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on my streaming setup? Using a Macintosh desktop and Radiologik software to program my music... and NiceCast with effects, etc for my final mix to the net. I have Presonus Firepod for an interface where my music programming comes out of the mac and into a Yamaha 16 c...
