Re: SDI Fiber PM's

I got a noticed in my Google Email Box/Account coming from a person using the name "8vsbpro" that I had a "Private Message" from them. I haven't been posting anything or coming to even look at this Community Board in months, or maybe a year. I had to get a temporary password to get back in here. I t...

Re: Asymmetrical modulation

Asymmetry by definition is "distortion." It generally indicates that there is a considerable amount of even order harmonic energy... Keep in mind that forced asymmetry is a completely different animal... Most male voices contain a lot of asymmetry, but I wouldn't say they are "full of distortion," ...

Re: EPMs / Spectrums for AM Stereo

I would love to operate in AM Stereo! It is a great idea, but I don't have a AM Stereo radio, and nobody around here that I know of has one. My transmitter, the BE AM-1A will do AM Stereo. I would have to order the card from BE. I don't know why Congress and the FCC just put AM Stereo on the back bu...

Re: Asymmetrical modulation

Mark, As I was reading your post, who's brain child was it to allow the AM Operator to push Asymmetrical Modulation up to 125%? What comes to my mind is that anything over 100% positive or negative modulation is what is the problem with AM now. As I was growing up from a teenager to now near 50 year...

Re: Asymmetrical modulation

I don't have the knowledge many of you who have been around the AM Processing biz, so I keep hearing different opinions about Asymmetrical Modulation. Here is my question. Is it best to run the negative peaks right at 100% and the positive peaks at say 105-110%? I think some of you are saying that t...

Re: Asymmetrical modulation

I hear you, LowBand! This isn't directed to AMGuy, but I do get a kick out of the processor brand wars. The bottom line is that most processors in the hands of a capable set of ears can be made to sing. They can also be made to sound completely awful in the wrong hands. If you're having the factory...

Re: Asymmetrical modulation

I may be mistaken, but vaguely remember reading about 10-15 years ago that today's "modern" receivers cannot demodulate asymmetrical modulation very well and inject their own distortion into the signal if being fed asymmetrical RF. Ever since that point, I've really shy'ed away from pushing positiv...

Re: Complete broadcast day of WJSV Washington DC September 2

I wonder why it was so special that they recorded an entire broadcast day. I have heard parts of it on You Tube. The Sign Off is really cool!

Re: Brother Stair off of 5085 Mhz?

I knew he was on WCKY, but I must be in a null of their directional pattern because it doesn't make it well into this market at night. WCKY is owned by Clear Channel.

Brother Stair off of 5085 Mhz?

Question: I know this is a question for the Shortwave Bands. Does anybody know why the station on 5805 KHz that carries Brother Stair is off? I can only get him on 5885 KHz. He is also on 1530 WCKY after midnight, central time, but WCKY is so in and out on their Night DA Pattern that I can't underst...

Re: Federal Goverment is shut down, so is the FCC

The EB still has stationary monitoring capability that they use to help identify interference sources (like pirate FM transmitters spewing trash into the air traffic control bands) and those are operating. Even the mobile units are damn good at it--I was treated to a ride-along demonstration of one...

Federal Goverment is shut down, so is the FCC

We'll it's happened. Congress can't agree on anything so not only the American People are going to suffer, but us broadcasters too! The FCC is shut down as of this posting. Now anything can happen, applications will be slow to get processed, the LPFM Window will get pushed back, FM Translators from ...

Governemnt Shutdown and The FCC

I just read a article from Radio World that tonight at 12 midnight if the Federal Government is to shut down, they are shutting down the FCC. It will delay applications pending and of course the enforcement. So I am just guessing, does this mean if the Government shuts down, the Pirates will fire up...

Re: Improvements in AM Broadcast and Commissioner Pai

Doug, As you know, the WAY-FM Application is on my tower. My plan with them is that the FM Transmitter will be in my building sitting in a rack next to my Transmitter Rack. They have been planning this with me since 2003. Jim Turvaville of WAY Media and WAY-FM has been my Consultant Engineer over my...

Re: Improvements in AM Broadcast and Commissioner Pai

The FM Band is too crowed to be saying that every AM is going to get a FM Translator. No disrespect to WSM-AM or Gaylord, but they had two 100 KW FMs and turned around and sold them to Cumulus. For that, it would not be fair for WSM-AM to be asking or allowed a FM Translator. The industry magazines ...
