Re: The Looming Engineering Age Crisis

One of my engineering buds retired a few years back, and at that time management let on he was cruel for doing so.

On his last day, he nailed an old pair of his shoes to the GM's door and wrote; "Good luck filling these" .

Re: High tech meeting no tech

Fortunately for us in AZ the Corporation Commission regulates all public wire communication. That covers telco & cable, so repairs are done without much delay. The hook is the same companies want to do high speed data/video as well, and can't pick & choose what to provide. They have weasled out of s...

Re: Want to know what makes (most) UHF engineers cringe?

Back in the 70's, when cross-ownership was legal in a single market, I worked for KBLU AM FM TV13. Yuma, AZ. The radio side was pretty sedate, but the TV was fraught with licensed psychotic air staff and one-off HB electronics gear. The TV STL was an old Raytheon remote unit, a huge HB vestigial fil...

One has to paint bare steel with vinegar to get 'decorative' rust.

Re: Z-10 ventilating

I designed and had built a site with an ambient air flow at all times (no recirculation) unless the outdoor temp went below 50. At that time, dampers fired, sealing the room and using TX heat to keep the building @ 75, controlled by the dampers letting a little fresh air in & out. All air first went...

Re: KIGO radio St. Anthony, Idaho

"Taking a look" at the site would involve a 1400 mile round trip, so no.

Installing/retuning a 35 year old Harris FM was my red flag.

Has anyone had experience with the owner, Mr. Ortega?

A possible business relationship here.

Thanks,

Re: Build a Phone Hybrid or Virtual Hybrid

If you are using a "modern" phone with connections for a headset, take that jack and use it (the phone itself) as a hybrid. Earpiece circuit goes to your console input, the mic circuit goes to your mix-minus bus. You might have to isolate things with a pair of 600/600 transformers. RDL make some eas...

Re: antenna switch for 1kw AM

Ditto.

I've used many P&B 4PDT 20A relays for that job with no problem.

I usually mount them on a small set of porcelain standoffs, and use a couple good bypass caps on the coil to keep any RF out of the control line.
