FIM-21/ 41 Repairs

The folks at Potomac Instruments almost always find something to repair /replace whenever you send your FIM in for Calibration. As many of you know the cost for this Calibration/Repair is pretty high. So, I'm wondering what seems to be the most common replaced/repaired part in these units ? ? ? What...

Re: CSP phasor controller

My experience with Phasor Controllers has led me to check all the Microswitches at the Tower Antenna Contactors. These little red microswitches will sometimes go bad or shift position and not make contact when the antenna contactor moves . Only if all the microswitches are engaged for each mode ( Da...

Re: WNPV Lansdale PA

It's sad to see any radio station succumb to the brutal cold reality of the changing world of advertising. Even more touching is the disappearance of "local origination" and the warm feeling of a hometown radio family. Time waits for no one and the older I get the more that phrase pisses me off ! :x

Re: WCBS/880 no longer HD-AM

I've heard thru the grapevine that CBS is finally throwing in the towel on AM-HD. Other CBS stations have dropped the HD already so this is no surprise.

Nautel Xmtrs -- For Sale

Does anyone have an idea what a fair price for each of these would be ? Nautel J-1000 and a ND-1

Both rigs are fully functional and were the Main/Aux for a station that has now gone dark.

I've got my ideas as to their value, but I'd like to see what others think.

Best Wishes

ND-25 Problem

I've been asked to look at a dead Nautel ND-25...It's not putting out any RF yet appears to be OK otherwise. I haven't been to the site yet, I'm just looking for ideas on what might be a cause for its problem... so I know where to start. The unit doesn't have any warning lites on it, ...but the PA M...

Re: AM Digital NPRM

The Large Corporate Groups may have a few "throw away" medium wave stations that they could afford to play with Digital Modulation on. But I don't see them abandoning a revenue producing AM modulated station just to experiment, the profit margins on radio are a bit too thin for that. We've been thru...

Re: AM Digital NPRM

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm an Old Fart with reduced hearing. My belief is that most AM listeners are somewhat that same category. So having a "wide" audio response in this proposed AM Digital Mode isn't a necessity. Anything above 7.5K is wasted. FWIW: I've listened to Analog AM stat...

Re: How do the AM pros do this?

Run your equipments coax thru about 10 Ferrite cores ( FT 50-43 ) at the point where it comes off the tower. Do this for each Line, power line, Cat-6, etc. See if that works.

Political Candidates & Talk Show Host

Joe Walsh, (not the Rock & Roll guy) has a Talk Show on Salem Media. He recently announced that he is seeking the GOP Presidential Nomination. He has thrown his hat into the ring. Can he continue to Host his Daily Talk Show ? Or is that not allowed. :?:

Re: Replacing sample lines

The Electrical Specs for FCC-38-50J -vs- LDF4-50 are nearly identical. So from a performance standpoint it looks like an easy swap. Now from the FCC viewpoint, the waters are murky. I too would ask Deep Thought what the best approach would be for dealing with the FCC. It could be a simple Skeleton P...
