Re: Orban Optimod 9300/9400

Most AM stations have their 9400 at the transmitter since that's where you get the most benefit from the 9400. Very few stations feed the stream from the transmitter site. Usually the stream is originated at the studio. Usually with a separate processor. Most stations don't feed the stream with an "...

Re: ND-25 Problem

A good person to talk to at Nautel is Steve Braley, he did the floor test on a lot of ND series transmitters. He floor tested an ND50 I work on. He is a good source of knowledge on the ND transmitter. If you call the Nautel customer support number they can have Steve contact you.

Re: TV OTA antennas

This week I upgraded my dad OTA antenna from an old VHF only antenna to a Channel Master CM 2018. Works great was very happy with the antenna. I'm in the Seattle area (Vashobn Island) so the antenna is actually pointed in a North direction. Kinda split between Queen Ann and Capital hill. I have also...

Re: Arrakis ARC-10 USB Noise

I used an external audio interface and disabled the internal Arrakis USB audio interface. I used a spare USB audio interface which was no cost since it was sitting on the shelf. But had to pay for the iDefender3.0 so cost was cheaper than buying a new USB audio interface and iDefender or Henry USB d...

Re: Arrakis ARC-10 USB Noise

Had the same problem with two Arc-15 consoles. Only way I found around the issue was to not use the Onboard USB and use an external one and use an iDefender3.0 with that setup. I first started with buying an iDefender3.0 which helped a little but still did not get rid of the noise. The iDefender iso...

EZ Kleen Filters

If you have an NX series transmitter from Nautel you most likely have one of these filters on the back of your transmitter. EZ Kleen says to clean these filters, shake off the dust and hose them off , then re coat with spray coat. Then the filter is ready for service. I'm curious how others clean th...

Re: Tiger Mountain (WA) master antenna catches on fire

This was a dual feed antenna, a top and bottom section so there would have to been two VSWR detectors for each transmission line going up the tower to the antenna. Another question is why was there no pressure monitor on each transmission line along with a run monitor on the pressurization system. I...

Re: ERI COG-1084 question

I think that is the same style of antenna that just burned up in a spectacular morning antenna fire here in Seattle. This was a 32 element ERI antenna. You can see some pictures at the local SBE website, sbe16.com. Antenna is a total loss. Stations affected are broadcasting from Aux sites. One of th...

Re: Retune Harris DX10

There is no driver section or pre drive amps in a Nautel NX series. So no power needed for this intermediate stage. Just replaced a ND50 (is now backup) with a NX50. There was a little decrease in the power bill. Not using MDCL yet at this station, but the preset is set up to do it.

Re: TX + Bad Memory = Off Air

I looked at my post and it sounds a little harsh, but no it is not. KEXP got a $10 million dollar donation in April 2018. You can google it. "But the good news is that a generous and anonymous soul has assured that the KEXP in-studio video series, as well as all the other day to day operations (you ...

Re: TX + Bad Memory = Off Air

Millions of dollars donated to KEXP, they build their showcase studios and they can't afford a transfer switch for the backup transmitter? Don't test their backup transmitter? I think the transmitter is a BE. But shame on KEXP for not having a robust RF transmission system. Did they spend to much on...

Re: T'was like putting a beloved old dog to "sleep"

I just installed a new NX50 in April replacing a 1997 ND50. The ND 50 is still in good shape so it is now the backup. 90% of the electrolytic have been replaced and overall runs fine. But I have one module (now the spare) with a bad RF connector. My company may be interested in a PA assembly and mat...

I had one in a 35 years ago. S100 computer. The thing I liked best was being able to shut the monitor off and seeing the normal readings burned into the monochrome display.

Re: DX50 air flow switch

ordered a new air flow sensor from Gates/air and that fixed the issue. This is a 91 vintage DX50 and of the 4 DX50 transmitter I deal with this is the oldest. The other 3 are bout 4-5 years newer (95-96) vintage and use a slightly different sensor. Now the transmitter runs when the room temp get abo...
