Re: Nautel Extended Digital Mode

Interesting, I've had my fair share of issues with a GV. Put a new GV10 on about two months ago. The main HD exciter would not make any RF right out of the crate, and that was just the start of issues. Backup non-HD exciter ran for a week or so until a new HD exciter arrived. Turned on HD service, a...

possible ownership cap rule changes

What is everyone hearing on NAB's recommendation for complete radio ownership deregulation on markets 75+? Does anyone think this will pass the FCC this year or maybe next year?

Re: Harris HT25-FM

What is the stereo generator? 8000 and 8100 Optimod used to develop a whine or whistle, but I can't exactly remember why. Otherwise, I agree with the others. Check the cables. Change the soup can caps. You may want to open up the IPA and look at the combining circuit. Check the IPA current and see i...

Re: National over Eimac or Econco

My Nautel 10NV/lt doesn't need any kind of light bulb! :D TPT, how do you like that NV10? I'm getting ready to install a Nautel GV10 in the coming weeks. What size primary conductors did you use on the 10? I just applied for an electrical permit and the inspector wants us to use 4 gauge primary con...

Re: National over Eimac or Econco

Four years on a 4cx3500 is pretty amazing. Most life I've gotten out of a typical Eimac 4CX3500 is about two years at full power, 12-16 months from an Econco. I believe ProTek is the former Richardson Electronics. At one time I was taking care of five Harris transmitters that used that tube, but all...

Correct,

All analog metering and I think there's just one board on HT5. I appreciate everyone's input.

Re: HT-5 plate off problem

True words there. Did that first thing. Its not the panel button, but I didn't have time to dig into the remote control interface board. I do think the local switch bypasses the remote command strip, and the problem exists in local also. Headed back there in a few days to examine the schematics in d...

HT-5 plate off problem

Here's an odd one for the braintrust: Have an HT-5 that likes to stay on, and I mean on. The plate off button results in a clunking /shuttering plate contactor, where its trying to stay on. HV and current jumps up and down with the clunking. Remote or local commands make no difference. Anyone ever e...

Re: ground strap thickness

Yep, I had an electrical inspector recently require us to cut loose the connection between the transmitter reference ground and the service entrance panel ground. He said the service entrance can only be attached to a designated ground rod and nothing else. When he saw the 4 inch strap inside the bu...

ground strap thickness

Is 0.022 still industry standard on 4" inch ground straps? I'm getting ready to rebuild an indoor ground system and it appears there are now four different thicknesses of copper strap available from most suppliers. The thick or heavy duty one is 0.032. Me thinks 0.022 is what most of us have used fo...

I believe ERI owns Andrew, and the coax used by the cell industry is somewhat thinner.

Re: Harris/Gates support

Kind of a shame to hear this about Gates because they are a true American company. I like the FAX transmitter, LDMOS amps, etc. I've been told the design was rooted from the military side before the split with Harris. With that being said, my company has moved away from Gates to Nautel. I have an AM...

Re: Wanted reliable monitor amp

We've had good luck with the ART SLA-1 amps in our remaining analog studios. About $200 from BSW. For all new AOIP studios, we are using powered monitors, KRK or Genelec. In my opinion, powered monitors are they way to go.
