Re: ETRS Reporting Forms 2 & 3 09/27/2017

Re: ESPN3 streaming parameters?
That's what I was looking for, thanks!
They stopped by this noon & logged in for me. Turns out the computer we're using isn't up to the task. It'll play CBC-TV just fine (at 2.6Mbps) but it can't handle the faster ESPN stream.

ESPN3 streaming parameters?
Anyone know the codec & bitrate they're using for this stream? Our sports guys have a subscription -- they're complaining it's stuttering & breaking up. I can stream other programs on the same computer without problems. I'm suspecting there's a problem with a codec on this machine, but I don't know ...

Re: Low resource SDR Software
Did you hear anything interesting? It took me awhile to review all the recordings... Identified about 130 stations. Nine metropolitan Chicago stations as small as 500 watts. (WRMN 1410 Elgin) Furthest west was 500-watt KICS 1550 Hastings, Nebraska about 650 miles. Furthest east was 1650 Portsmouth, ...

FCC runs out of LPTV callsigns (kinda)
High-VHF channels have always been popular for translators in the West. The DTV conversion bumped many to new channels and got us pretty close to the end of the alphabet in some places. K07ZR (Harlowton, Montana); K09ZB (Havre, Montana); and K13ZS (Sargents, Colorado) were assigned. I figured the re...

Re: Low resource SDR Software
I have (I think) the same hardware as Kevin -- the SDRPlay RSP1. I'm happy with it. Good strong-signal handling; with a 260-foot center-fed antenna attached, not a hint of spurious reception in either the AM BCB or shortwave. (or FM although it's clearly not an FM antenna:) )

Re: Bleed over
IMHO you need to break this down step by step. I suspect you may have more than one problem. I think what I would do... is *turn off* the 1240 transmitter. Turn up the levels on the 1240 audio and see if it still bleeds over. If it still bleeds over with the 1240 transmitter turned off... you have a...

Re: Low resource SDR Software
Well. This is going to take awhile:) There was a dramatic improvement in conditions as totality approached. At 1645z (roughly 90 minutes before totality) most of the expanded-band was empty -- there's a weak signal from Huntsville 100 miles away on 1700, and a poor signal from the TDOT TIS stations ...

GQRX is supposed to work with either RSP unit & OS/X. I don't have a Mac available so haven't tried it.

Re: Low resource SDR Software
I've got a low 160m dipole connected to mine. (oriented east-west but at its elevation I'm not going to predict the directivity, if any!) The site is pretty quiet. Diddling around with it last night I was surprised how well it hears on *FM* -- stuff like Evansville and the Nashville Catholic LPFM 25...

Re: Low resource SDR Software
This is probably off the mark but... What are you recording to? Internal HDD? I'm doing essentially the same thing, but using a fairly beefy desktop. (HP Z400) Using HDSDR since it has a decent scheduler and I cannot be home during the eclipse. I wanted to record to an external 5TB USB HDD. Unfortun...

Re: Mounting stuff to old concrete block wall?
(It's not really mounted horizontally, the phone decided to rotate the photo & I'm too lazy to reformat it...) As you noted in that photo, the socket was mounted but there weren't any wires connected. I'm a Grade A procrastinator. Finally got around to wiring it this afternoon. The dryer cord was l...

Re: EAS Antenna Issue
Good advice from "vacuum tube", about reorienting your antenna. If you can get your hands on a HD radio, they frequently have *amazing* selectivity. Are you sure you have to monitor 104.9? It is possible the Michigan EAS plan allows for an alternate monitoring assignment that's not subject to interf...

Re: E-skip 7/27
That you do!
Some things that aren't really 6-meter antennas may work surprisingly well on 6 meters. I've made trans-Atlantic QSOs using my HF tribander and an old 2m 5/8 mag-mount.

Yeah, there was extensive tropospheric propagation being reported around the Great Lakes for a few days as well.
