Re: Better Signal?

I also noticed a few months ago a tower site that didn't have any registration numbers or anything, but RF warning signs. I went to a couple of boards and was pointed in the direction of a few search sites, but was never able to find any records or anything. Well last week, they started tearing it ...

Re: Better Signal?

Another case, 1230 KWTX-AM, 1,000 Watt station, I live 15 miles away (as the crow flies) from the transmitter, and it has a whine, and static in it, that only gets worse during night-time. Short tower, on the fringe of town. The reception gets a little better in town, but is still horrible. This mi...

Re: Tapeless ENG?

We're P2. It's worked quite well. P2 cards are file-based, I would *think* a standard file-wipe application would adequately wipe out the data - under Linux something like "dd if=/dev/random of=/dev/p2card00". Whether that would be adequate to satisfy the military I've no idea. For archive, we're st...

Re: Digital EPG

Well this was an interesting one. We got a call from a viewer saying their box is seeing "XX-1" but it wasn't actually seeing video/audio. Upon investigating, I opened the Amber software and did a output photo request only to get the error message "PMT is bad", then "PAT is bad". So basically anyon...

Re: Digital EPG

There is a bug in the Pearl software which Bryan Cogswell of Thales shown me, and in the event you have the same issue, this might be related. If you have a reoccuring event , i.e. a weather channel, and it is set to run "infinity" with no termination date, it literally chokes the output of the Pea...

Re: Digital EPG

Where does the EPG info come from? Is it, for instance, read from a text file at the station, or does it come from something liek Gemstar/TV Guide or Tribune? At our station it comes from Tribune Media Services. To address some other points in random order... We've had some trouble with our mux goi...

Re: Digital EPG

Hey TV Engineers... Does the FCC have rules for publishing your DTV EPG like they do for PSIP? There's one station here in town that all they publish is "DTV Program" for their EPG. -A Yes, you're required to publish an EPG with real program titles. Right now it's legal to schedule things in advanc...

...and one on the "superman" building downtown. "Superman" building, huh... Re: Oversized crane in tunnel crash caught on tape

Across the street, actually... Or right in between the Kohl Center and our ENG receive site so we can't do ENG shots from the Kohl Center. There were always places downtown where you couldn't get a shot in. I remember going downtown to scout a temporary microwave site for some Presidential candidat...

Re: Oversized crane in tunnel crash caught on tape

Heck, that used to happen all the time in Madison, under the railroad bridge on Park St. just south of Ogg Hall. Banged up a bunch of trucks, never seemed to hurt the bridge any. Dunno if the new bridge is up to the old standards. Been here a year and don't think we've had anything happen over ther...

Re: 8VSB Consumer Modulator

German amateurs have been experimenting with DTV. http://www.datv-agaf.de/ (most of the site in German but there are English translations interspersed and a button that's supposed to translate the rest of the page) They seem to have come up with two boards: a MPEG encoder (which will accept NTSC ana...

Re: A Bunch Of Questions

Doug, first of all thank you for the response. I am seeing WMLW on 58-2 which would explain alot. Batman never looked so good. There is audio on the rest of the WMVS subcarriers but they are transmitting video from the National Weather Service... satillite images and some of the graphics I see from...

Re: 366 Days and counting

really to be determined. I haven't seen if Amateur Radio gets any of it, but I tend to doubt we will. No, none of the 700MHz spectrum will be going to amateur radio. 24MHz of the "upper 700MHz band" (channels 60-69) are going to public safety; the rest is being or has been auctioned. 6MHz (channel ...

Re: A Bunch Of Questions

I am wondering why the picture is so clear for stations that I normally get poor reception on? The analog signal for LP WMLW is usually grainy and hard to pick up (read tin foil on the rabbit ears) but the digital signal is crystal clear. Are the digital broadcasts higher power? Same goes for WITI....
