Re: Oversized crane in tunnel crash caught on tape

Heck, that used to happen all the time in Madison, under the railroad bridge on Park St. just south of Ogg Hall. Banged up a bunch of trucks, never seemed to hurt the bridge any. Dunno if the new bridge is up to the old standards. Been here a year and don't think we've had anything happen over ther...

Re: Oversized crane in tunnel crash caught on tape

http://wbztv.com/local/I.90.connector.2.665283.html I am amazed that some people can dress themselves. Now who wants to go drive in that lovely tunnel after this? I know I dont! Heck, that used to happen all the time in Madison, under the railroad bridge on Park St. just south of Ogg Hall. Banged u...

Re: 8VSB Consumer Modulator

German amateurs have been experimenting with DTV. http://www.datv-agaf.de/ (most of the site in German but there are English translations interspersed and a button that's supposed to translate the rest of the page) They seem to have come up with two boards: a MPEG encoder (which will accept NTSC ana...

Re: A Bunch Of Questions

Doug, first of all thank you for the response. I am seeing WMLW on 58-2 which would explain alot. Batman never looked so good. There is audio on the rest of the WMVS subcarriers but they are transmitting video from the National Weather Service... satillite images and some of the graphics I see from...

Re: 366 Days and counting

really to be determined. I haven't seen if Amateur Radio gets any of it, but I tend to doubt we will. No, none of the 700MHz spectrum will be going to amateur radio. 24MHz of the "upper 700MHz band" (channels 60-69) are going to public safety; the rest is being or has been auctioned. 6MHz (channel ...

Re: A Bunch Of Questions

I am wondering why the picture is so clear for stations that I normally get poor reception on? The analog signal for LP WMLW is usually grainy and hard to pick up (read tin foil on the rabbit ears) but the digital signal is crystal clear. Are the digital broadcasts higher power? Same goes for WITI....

Re: Ham Engineers, sign in please!

Welcome, Mike! Y'all OK over in TN? Kind of nasty weather you had! DAH di DAH Tired but fine. No damage (not even broken twigs in the driveway) here. We did have a tornado aloft about a mile south of the TV station & the winds brought down a 12" tree across the road. Obviously it was a LOT worse ab...

Re: NAB requests increase in IBOC power

Effectively yes - the current injectors (analog+digital hybrid combiners) are typically 10dB. That is 10dB loss from digital input to antenna output and nominally .5dB from analog input to antenna output. Thus, with current requirements, a 10kW analog TPO would require 11.111kW of analog power (wit...

Re: NAB requests increase in IBOC power

I picked Doc to quote, rather than Doug or Kent, but all raise good points. (Thanks for the info! I composed a reply to Kent's reply but inadvertently saved it as a draft instead of posting - can't figure out how to retrieve the draft  - and glad I couldn't as you've pretty much answered what...

Re: NAB requests increase in IBOC power

Isn't this increase going to be rather difficult for a lot of stations to implement? I'm in TV - radio is just a hobby - so maybe I'm misunderstanding something here - but aren't most IBOC stations using high-level combining? I read a paper about the CBC's tests in Toronto and Peterborough which ind...
