Re: Ecreso vs. BW for Translator

There is a serious misconception that offshore repairs are bad, and take a long time.
It's not a misconception, and you won't have to look far to find someone here who has waited weeks for a repair return. Maybe not from BW today, but it has happened.

Re: Capacitor replacement.

One other thing...none of those windings is grounded. Is there a separate static drain coil in there? If not, that's why the capacitor popped when lightning got a bit too close.

Re: Two soggy Heliax lines!

The inside of that line is almost certainly corroded and full of carbonized crap at this point. As noted above, this is a replace, not a repair.

Re: Capacitor replacement.

The value is not critical. Anything from 0.01 up will work...their job is to equalize the RF potential on the windings on the "hot" end and give an RF path to ground on the "cold" end. The voltage rating is more important, and you might want to up that to 1 KV or higher.

I've got the amp and the matching tuner. Same thing here...used every day I'm in the office for over 25 years now and just keeps chugging along.

Thanks Mark, you're a good man. Is the tower still there?
It's gone, replaced by a taller one (ASRN 1038226) in 2004.

Re: Blower Motor Replacement Harris HT-10

There is nothing magic about a blower motor. If you are lucky enough to still have a motor repair shop in the area they can usually rebuild the bearings for about ten cents on the dollar (or less, sometimes a lot less) of a new motor.

If you do that make sure the A/D conversion is 192k sample rate.

Re: Remote Control Recommendcations

If you have reliable IP connectivity at the transmitter site BT is the way to go. If not and you're still on POTS, you really can't beat a Sine Systems even though it is very long in the tooth. Stay away from the Circuitwerks stuff unless you like to spend a day setting up and troubleshooting what s...

Re: FCC Rules concerning transmitter site contracts, use, ownership, etc...

The FCC has historically considered this sort of thing to be contract law outside their jurisdiction, so there's no help there. However, if the site owner does something to knock the station off the air or somehow damages the facility that is a violation of the Communications Act and several other F...
