Future generations of my family will have ringing ears from from me tuning those up 15 years ago.

Re: Receive antenna height for translator

631 is a casual receiver. You need a 640 or 650. Sloppy engineering. Uh, can we be polite? I'm not a moderator here but I have to believe you are skating on thin ice. I, for one, would hate to lose your perspective and experience. That may be the only reason you haven't heard from a moderator yet. ...

BroadcastTools SiteSentinel 4

Howdy!

I'm trying to get the silence alarm on the SiteSentinel 4 to send an SNMP trap. Has anyone gotten this to work? Basically I want to tie a Burk status channel to it so it will dial out on the loss of audio. My Burk at this site is SNMP only, so I don't have much in the way of options.

Re: Missing FM pilot

I don't believe that is covered in the rules anymore. As long as the occupied bandwidth doesn't exceed 75kHz, I wouldn't expect much concern by the FCC. Any particular reason why it's bothering you? It really does not bother me much other than it is not really correct. Kinda like a really messy cab...

Re: AM CQuam Stereo

well... the ship is still here but why no one is taking advantage of it... but with a more positive attitude... Nah, the ship is not here. There are no new radios capable of decoding C-QUAM (other than a few HD models) and there are very few existing radios in the field. If you have the stuff, grea...

Re: New HD signal, BE equipment

Here's an HD-2 (SPS1) running on BE's Importer. You can adjust the level via the "Audio Gain" slider, or the Linear Acoustics software.

And here's where you's adjust the HD1 (MPS) audio level:

Re: New HD signal, BE equipment

I found that parameter in the software, but when I experimented with it, I could not perceive a level change in the HD1 signal, I did not check to see if it had an effect on the HD2 signal. If I remember correctly, the range for this field is -10 to +10, and I tried it at several settings, includin...

Re: The Looming Engineering Age Crisis

I agree this is an excellent article. I'm a little mystified how it showed up in my Facebook feed, attached to a picture of the rack room at my office. I got into the engineering side about 30 years ago, mainly because I was burned out from doing air shifts, not that I was all that great of a "tale...

Re: BroadcastDoc

Almost immediately after getting here I installed new processing on all the stations (did the same in Madison). I'm kind of a stickler for the "quality" side of the "quality/loudness" tradeoff. Fortunately, the Program Directors that I work with have all been pleased with the results, so I've been a...

Wow! Thank you for the kind words!

I joined Entercom (Kiss and Mix) in 2003, and I'm still there. I added WMHX, WOLX, and WMMM in Madison in 2005. Let me know what you think when you get back to town!
