Re: Combining two AMs at one site

I did an interesting one a few years ago where we moved a DA on 1550 into the space between the towers on a DA that was on 680. It wasn't really diplexed but it might as well have been. We stuck a 4 tower 1550 parallelogram in the 1/2 wave space between the towers on the 680 array. The MoM proof was...

Re: Scala FM Antennas

The thing I hate about them is that the Commission licenses them as though they were in a vacuum and they only reference the spec. sheet pattern, no matter how it is oriented with respect to the tower. I have used that to my advantage for clients but I have also had clients get creamed by interferen...

Re: FM radio with excellent selectivity needed

Back in the RPU days (Marti remotes were a big reason why I quit being a chief engineer years ago) I had a Crown FM2 in the remote motorhome and it was bulletproof. Now that all of the remotes are done with Comrex units it was safe for me to go back to being a chief engineer again but many of the tu...

Re: Spacing XDS units in a rack?

I leave 1 RU between units but I don't know that it is necessary. If you do stack them they should be able to get plenty of air from the sides and an unobstructed air flow out the back of the rack. I have them in a set of racks without open air between the rack units rather than sides and I took the...

Re: Gates Air Flex20 vs. Nautel NV20lt

Update:

Nautel shipped my client a new VS2.5 and it was installed last night by the local staff with no drama at all. Up and running great and we will see if it stays that way - my bet is that it will be trouble free for years to come.

Re: Gates Air Flex20 vs. Nautel NV20lt

The station in question is about 250 miles away from me and I have not been directly involved in the conversations and I have not actually had the opportunity to replace any of them myself. Based on the verbal description I am going to say that they just short out without visible damage but I can't ...

Re: Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

The Form Two went easy for me as well. My fear was the Commission servers not being up to the task. I logged in right at 4:00 PM Central and there were no delays at all except for failing to check the certification box on my part on the first station. I think staggering the reporting by time zone li...

Re: Receive antenna height for translator

Without specifics it is difficult to give a good answer. The variables are distance, terrain, and interference from other stations. In general, you want to go at the lowest height that will reliably get the job done. More height, beyond what gets (more or less) line of sight, just results in more li...

Re: Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

So all information on the length of the test was wrong. Ours clocked in at 28 seconds for the message and was not bilingual as had been advertised. No drama whatsoever and it was nice that we knew it was coming so that we could shift the :20 break and not blow up a spot set. Now the next phase of fu...

Re: My old R16 Audioarts console has lost a Mic module!

Short of the module catching on fire it should be repairable. I typically have problems with the Program and Audition on the Wheatstone / Audioarts consoles of that vintage and, as far as I know, you can still buy any part from Wheatstone other than the complete modules or the motherboard. Have you ...

Re: Gates Air Flex20 vs. Nautel NV20lt

Curious about your transmitter story, Lee. Nautel has specific grounding designed for their transmitters...at least the GV40. It is a single point on the back of the cabinet that is isolated from the cabinet. They tell you ground at this point only. (Obviously, the transmission line is also grounde...

Re: Gates Air Flex20 vs. Nautel NV20lt

I am similarly situated and at some point I am going to have to replace my circa '81 to '87 fleet of Continental and Harris transmitters. I do a fair amount of contract installation work and my installations tend to track what my local RF Specialties shop is offering. For 20 years or so it was almos...

Re: Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

In a futile attempt to keep the server traffic humming along at the Commission Al Kenyon sent out a proposed schedule for licensees to file Form 2. The dissemination was limited to the SBE listserver which means not many people got it and I suspect even fewer will pay any attention to it. That said,...

Any word on the length of the pending NPT?

I am trying to get all of the ducks in a row for the upcoming National Periodic Test and, since we know when it is scheduled, I was going to give traffic a heads up to adjust the break to make time for it. Has anyone heard anything about how long the script is or what the total time of the test will...
