Re: Tower replacement for Two combined NON-D AM's

1/4 wavelength at 1400 is 175 feet; 1/4 at 780 is 315 feet That's correct...forgot to convert meters to feet on the 1400 calculation.....but it appears 175 should still work: Input Parameters Frequency: 780 kHz Number of Ground Radials: 120 Correction for number of radials: 0.0000 mV/m @ 1 mile Ave...

Re: Tower replacement for Two combined NON-D AM's

I would not recommend spending any more money reinforcing a "angle iron" tower. That thing is probably well past its design life. My thoughts exactly, just wanted confirmation from a more experienced engineer. if my math is good, 1/2 wavelength at 1400 is about 107'. Putting that into the...

Re: Tower replacement for Two combined NON-D AM's

Any thoughts on reinforcing an old angle iron tower? The last guys to climb it to repalce the top beacon bulb really didn't like it......

Any thoughts on who to get an estimate for work from, since your in TN as well?

Thanks!

Tower replacement for Two combined NON-D AM's

I've got a 270' tower serving two non-d AM's. It is going to need replacing or reinforcing soon. I Have heard that the FCC has relaxed the minimum efficiency requirement for AM's. my frequencies are 780 and 1400. what is the shortest tower I could build to replace this one? I'd love to get under 200...

Re: ADC Punch Block Tool

I have never used one in a broadcast facility.” Heh. Young whippersnapper! I participated in a major studio buildout in 1995-96. We used patch bays extensively. Not my design, though. I was kind of surprised but ok with it since we were so used to operating that way. In the end we didn’t use them n...

Re: ADC Punch Block Tool

Mine are in my home recording studio. I have never used one in a broadcast facility. Yes the contacts and the normals can get flaky when not used.

I'd rather have a router (With redundancy) in a broadcast environment.

Re: ADC Punch Block Tool

No theyre not cheap. With patience ond/or luck, you can get some good deals on ebay.

My Bays are all TT, so I don't have any unused 1/4" Cables to offer you.

Re: Harris CD Link

Not on a CDLINK, but I have seen the Center Connector come undone internally on the N or BNC Connectors, so could be worth popping the top and having a look.

Re: ADC Punch Block Tool

99.999% sure you are going to want to use the "Telco" or "Millitary" style 1/4" plugs, the ones with the rounded tip. Every 1/4" ADC patchbay I've ever seen used that style. There is a manual punch tool that looks like a screwdriver, I have one I got on ebay for about $...

Re: optimod 2300 boots to blank screen

Heres What Orban service said (Verbatim): "Storm corruption. It will need to come here for service. Usually runs $800" Anyone have anyidea what they mean by "storm Corruption"? If theyrer just reflashing firmware, that sounds incredibly steep. IF theyr'e replacing EEPROMs or some...

Re: The Looming Engineering Age Crisis

I"ll be 40 this may.....most of the other engineers I have met are 20 years older than me, I've met a handful that are any younger than me, and know another handful that are around my age, and that is after working in 3 markets with a bit a bit of geography between them. For the most part, the ...

Hello all, I was given an optimod 2300 a few years back and I have a use for it now but it powers up to a blank screen Actually there is a _ top left. passes no audio. Looks like it won't boot to me. is there a recovery procedure? maybe a dead internal battery? something else? Anyone ever seen this?...
