Sync clock to delayed audio?
Sync clock to delayed audio?
I am setting up a studio with an 8-second profanity delay, and the users would like the system clock to match the delayed audio instead of the live audio. In other words, they want to start their show when the clock shows 12:00:00, not 11:59:52. We are using a Wide Orbit automation system with the central server synced to an ntp service, and an Eventide BD960 delay. Is there a way to set the system clock ahead by 8 seconds?

You could set up a local NTP server with a -8 second offset.
This will do the job: http://www.analogx.com/contents/downloa ... eeware.htm

Thanks, Doc! That is exactly what I was looking for.

Just so I understand... the hosts want the program to actually leave the antenna at 12:00:00? I'm curious as to their reasoning on this. Usually the hosts live in real time (i.e., the show starts at 12:00:00) and the listeners are in a world that's 8 seconds behind (i.e., they hear the show begin at 12:00:08.)

If it's a local show on a local station, usually the delay would not be a factor as far as starting/stopping the show.
If it's syndicated, everything changes. Affiliates are going to expect the show to start at exactly xx:xx, not seven seconds later. So the talent has to start the show a little early so that everything times out correctly for the affiliates.

This is indeed the case. The network is distributed to affiliates via satellite.awsherrill wrote:If it's a local show on a local station, usually the delay would not be a factor as far as starting/stopping the show.

Got it! Makes sense now. Thanks.

Not to be a party pooper... but what happens when you actually dump the delay? Any ideas how to set up a real-time clock in such a scenario?

Probably the best thing to do would be to dump with dead air, that way you don't have to worry about filling the buffer before the next break or TOH.djpcraze wrote:Not to be a party pooper... but what happens when you actually dump the delay?
