Nope. Modern audio processing does the same thing (phase rotator to even out positive and negative modulation peaks in the source material so you didn't end up with having to unnecessarily reduce overall modulation to accommodate heavily asymmetric voices which happen to be driving the negative side harder than the positive) but the actual utility of those boxes was suspect even when they were new.

If you have an audio processor younger than about 40 years you can donate that to a museum. :mrgreen:
