After Tom, I believe Clif Mills was taking care of it for a while, and I believe Ryan Kurpa(?) is now doing it.

Clif and Ryan took care of WQUN-AM. Tom and I did WQAQ-FM. Totally independent operations. I don't know who it taking care of the FM these days. The FM was/is student run. The AM was/is a paid commercial business operation.

I believe Ryan was doing WQUN up until the end, as I know he and fellow broadcast colleague Bob Gilmore were also working together at ESPN in Bristol. Here's a link to my forum post when four years ago (and 50 pounds heavier) I toured the station's transmitter site:

As far as I know, the site is unchanged except for a very expensive Kintronic notch filter to get rid of an intermod product detected a few years ago. They were also running the stock C-QUAM stereo built into the BE transmitter.

Ryan inherited WADS from Clif. I don't know if he inherited any others.

Apparently they filed a "Silent STA". I don't know if that's the same as surrendering the license. I also heard that they inquired about taking the towers down. That pretty much means they'll be selling the equipment and property pretty soon afterward.

From https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.ex ... _num=42658:
Exhibit 1
Description: REASON FOR NOFICIATION OF SUSPENSION AND REQUEST FOR SILENT STA

WQUN(AM)WENT OFF THE AIR AT 6 PM ON MAY 31, 2019.

QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY REQUESTS SPECIAL TEMPORARY AUTHORITY TO CONTINUE TO SUSPEND STATION OPERATIONS OF WQUN(AM). THIS REQUEST IS BASED ON FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS (I.E., THE STATION HAS EXPERIENCED DECLINING REVENUES) AND A REASSESSMENT OF STUDENT NEEDS BASED ON THE UNIVERSITY'S STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS. THE UNIVERSITY WILL CONTINUE TO OPERATE WQAQ(FM), HAMDEN, CT, A STUDENT-RUN RADIO STATION.
This form is for a temporary silence. You're supposed to file it if you expect to be off for more than 30 days, and it's valid for up to 180 days.

I don't believe there's a form for surrendering a license. Note this letter attached to the record of deleted station WDOD-1310, Chattanooga:

I have had a few AM's go totally dark over the years and IIRC, they just had their attys send the FCC a letter saying that they were turning in the license. I think that they also included a copy of the original license and received a letter from the FCC giving them something like 30 days to reconsider and it was done.

I don't recall them requesting an STA of any type.

There is no STA for surrendering the license since it is not "temporary". The station just submits a letter with the license (or a copy of the original) and requests that it be cancelled.

In this case it appears they're still hoping that someone will buy it if they are filing for STA to remain silent, but the 12 month clock started the day they notified the FCC of the station being off-air.

That is precisely the situation with my old client and friend that took his station dark in June. They have a silent STA AND have basically given the station to a local church AND are working thru the transfer/assignment process BUT nobody is sure if they can find money to get it back on before the STA expires.

They were planning on putting the TX at either the studio or either of a couple 2-way towers but that has apparently fallen by the wayside. I haven't had contact with anyone from the potential new owners for over a month, so not sure if the deal is still on or not.
