No that the new marking and lighting rules are in place, has anyone heard more about the "Crop Duster" rules for towers under 200' ?

Does this now require the "dusters" to maintain a min altitude 210 ft??? VFR or IFR :roll: ?

I was under the impression that those rules about towers under 200' were not for communications towers, but for meteorological towers. It seemed like the under 200' rule for them was due to the fact meteorological towers are usually much smaller in diameter compared to communications towers and because they are more temporary in nature. They are put up and taken down quite frequently

The rules are for ***all*** structures above 50ft. which are smaller than 10 outside diameter/profile, outside of municipal boundaries, and not adjacent to any buildings. IOW, locations where crop dusters and other low flying aircraft will operate.

My birds are tweeting there is a revision in the statute coming which will further refine what structures need paint/lights.

This has huge implications for upper band stations located just out of town. It's in effect and all in the FAA's hands now on how they're going to regulate according to the statute.
