Sony has sent out this urgent message:
Please be advised that Sony has released an urgent firmware update for the following products:

MODEL/FIRMWARE VERSION:
  • PXW-X500: Ver.6.10 or earlier
  • PXW-X400: Ver.4.10 or earlier
  • PXW-Z450: Ver.4.10 or earlier
  • MPC-3610: Ver.2.10 or earlier
Reason:
RECORDING FUNCTIONALITY WILL NOT WORK ON “LEAP DAY” FEBRUARY 29, 2020.
The new firmware release will rectify this issue and enable recording function on February 29, 2020.

For instructions and to obtain updated firmware in North America (U.S., Canada), please contact Sony at:
Email: prosupport@sony.com and use subject “Leap Day” Phone: 800-883-6817, option 5
That would certainly be suboptimal for somebody's news department.

Thanks, Jeff!

Our cameras aren't on the list, but it's good to know, just in case our cameras should have been.

So they must have changed the date to 2/29/2020 to test this (and found: Ruh-roh). Which suggests one could change the date to enable function on the 29th. Unless one can’t.

2/29 & 3/1 could turn out to be slow news days!

Good idea. I almost posted it here, but figured it didn't apply to the majority of members who work in radio.

More broadly, this bug could apply to other systems. I'm a bit nervous about our automation, which was written after the last leap day -- so this will be its first rodeo.

Also the board settings would've prevented you from doing so too. Only admins/moderators can create posts in this forum. We just move the posts deemed to fit in this forum here. :)
