RDL ST-SSR1

Post by rftranstv » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:01 am

Will this audio SSR work with AES? Im not seeing anything on RDL's website or in the manual that says it won't, but im not seeing anything that says it will either.

It might possibly work, but RDL categorizes it as analog gear on their website. I would be concerned about what happens at switch transitions, since this product is intended to perform a crossfade, which will yield corrupt data during the transition.

My inclination would be to use an ordinary DPDT relay such as an Omron MY2-DC12 (12v DC coil) and a PYF08A-E socket -- like the RDL unit, you have screw terminals; unlike the RDL, it will pass "normal" audio even without power being applied. If you have several sets of lines to be switched, you can even snap the sockets onto a DIN rail, which would make a rather neat installation. And unlike the RDL, a relay and socket will set you back less than $20.

I talked to their tech support...it will not do AES, which is fine but it would of saved a little time if it did!
