BVH-2000 stuck on "INITIAL"

Post by Surlevif » Wed Jun 06, 2018 1:05 pm

Hi all,

We purchased a second-hand BVH-2000 last year on eBay and we have been using it from time to time to capture some old tapes.

The machine was in good functioning condition, working just as expected. The last time we used it may have been2 or 3 month ago, and during that time, the machine was powered off.

Yesterday, when trying to play a tape, I realized that the BVH did not properly "boot" after being powered on and the display just says "INITIAL".

I know it is very little to work with at the moment but could any of you could point me toward the direction of what is wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the link!

Unfortunately, or fortunately actually, the BVH booted properly a mere 20 min after posting and is now working fine...

Case closed.... for now!

On the SY-80 board, take a look at capacitors C28 (22uF/25v) and C29 (1uF / 50v). They're both part of the CPU reset logic, and the purpose is to give the power supply time to come up completely and the rest of the machine to be fully powered before releasing the reset inputs to the CPUs on SY-80, SY-79, and LG-02 boards. If one of these caps is leaky (electrically), the time delay will increase -- or it might never allow the reset line to rise.

I cannot thank you guys enough for helping me out with this.

I am still not sure what happened but I will definitely have a look at the SY-79 and SY-80 boards if this issue ever happens again.

Thanks again PID_Stop and ChuckG for your assistance!
