Possible solution to Radomes?

Post by MaxGrody » Sat Aug 04, 2018 8:10 am

Being in the northern great plains, ice on antennas becomes a big issue: VSWR and tearing down structures, etc.

Many radio stations have bulky plastic radomes set up, weighing down and gathering ice, keeping the antennas free. But has anyone ever experimented with repellant spray/paint such as SLIPS™ to coat the antennas themselves? Does this cause VSWR inefficiency? It would seem to be a very possible solution to ice gathering on antennas in cold areas.
