LPB Output Transistors (SD-1407 Matched Pair)

Post by Dale H. Cook » Sun Dec 23, 2018 11:09 am

Does anyone else here work on LPB transmitters? If so, what are you doing for output transistors (SD-1407 matched pair) now that RF Parts is out of them and they are no longer available from SGS-Thomson? Mouser is showing Advanced Semi SD-1407 matched pair for almost $150 per pair with 6 week lead time from the factory.

If you can get them at all you're lucky, and that's pretty much been the price lately.

The price for a matched pair at Mouser is not bad considering that they get about $70 for singletons. For the labor that it would take me to match singletons my clients would be better off with factory matched pair. I have one client who stocks spares - I need to let them know that there will likely be a six week lead time for replacements, and knowing that owner he will want to order a pair from Mouser right away - he will be willing to invest $150 to back up the current spares from RF Parts given the six week lead time. After all, when your LPB is connected to a 300 foot lightning rod the transistors will occasionally get lunched. I will inform other clients that they need to stock spares or face having no nighttime signal for a month and a half, but they will probably want me to invest my capital in spares for them, which I will not do. If they are not willing to invest their capital for their equipment I certainly won't, unless I can convince them to give me $300 for a matched pair.
