Nautel XR3 RS-232?

Post by B-TECH » Wed Jun 26, 2019 12:30 am

G'day from down under!
Long time reader of the forum, first time poster
So we have 4 XR3's in our network and currently have the basic On/Off, Reset controls and the basic statuses wired.
Looking around I can't find any information on the RS-232 implemented on these transmitters.
The manual says: "This port allows you to remotely control and interrogate the XR3's Operational Status"
But HOW?
I have connected up a serial monitor and tried every common serial interrogation command I know and got no reply..
We are hoping to get more detailed readings out of these to match the monitoring we have on our other transmitters.
Has anyone on here had experience getting serial data out of these boxes?
any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ben

Nautel has an option for LAN-based control, but it is from the late 2000s and rather crude by today's standards. It is called "NxLink" and it plugs into that RS-232-looking DB-9.

The XR3/6 is still in production but I don't know about the NxLink. I've installed a few transmitters which came with it but we never hooked it up.

Yup, we can still provide NX-Link and it can be done as a field retrofit. It's a basic text only display, but gives you on/off, exciter change, power raise lower and the ability to select presets. You can monitor any parameter that's visible from the front screen of the transmitter. Where it's html based, you assign the unit an IP address and can access it from any web browser.
